It is a stellar place to train hard and get fit for climbing; but the inclusive, laid-back attitude of the Cave community is what really makes the Cave special. The History of the Cave
canmoreboulderingcave started as a community project after the Vision, one of Canmore's former climbing gyms closed. The Town of Canmore and the Junior Climbing Team pressed for a new facility to keep indoor climbing alive in Canmore, providing funding for and organization to construct the Cave v1.0. The first rendition of the Cave continued with the support of the Junior Climbing Team until Elevation Place opened, after which point, canmoreboulderingcave Association took over operations. The Association is a non-profit cooperative, owned and operated by members, for members. The organization is fully volunteer run and strives to support and maintain a home for serious climbers of all abilities in Canmore.
The Cave v1.0 continued in it’s original location until 2024, at which point the Cave was forced to move. The Cave moved out of its former location in the Spring of 2015, and searched for a new home through the summer, contemplating whether or not to close the doors and end an era, or find a new venue to continue the stoke.
In the fall of 2024, a new space was secured in the old digs of the Rocky Mountain Soap Co. Version 2.0 was constructed, with the doors opening in late November, 2015. Since then, the Cave has plugged along, trying to maintain a second indoor climbing alternative in Canmore that caters to climbers that seek their own path.
The space is maintained by members for members. Everyone pitches in to clean, vacuum, set and improve the venue. The board of directors strives to serve the community as best as possible, providing marketing, management and guidance. If anyone is interested in pitching in to keep the doors open, we're always looking for helpful hands, regardless of your skills or abilities, we want to hear from you!
It doesn’t matter what your climbing ability is. If you have an open mind and want to climb and train, come check us out! We’re open 24hrs a day, so that you can train on your own time, when you want, as you want.

A LOOK AROUND
What you can do at the Cave depends on you, your goals and your imagination! Whether you're looking to relax, hang out, watch movies, train, stretch or climb, we have it all. Big crash pads, a training corner with rings, weights, bands, weight belts, and dowels, along with a hangboard and a full campus board. The climbing terrain ranges from just past vertical to steep roofs, a big 58 degree wall and a variety of angles in between. Routes cater to all abilities, ranging from V0 to Vhard.
